Kip Kirkpatrick

Mr. Kirkpatrick has been an active investor and operator since 1996. From 2011 to 2013, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of USFS, one of the nation’s fastest growing independent mortgage lenders. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a founding partner of Water Street Healthcare Partners, one of the most active investors in the healthcare industry. He began his career at JPMorgan Chase (then First Chicago) in 1994, was promoted to a variety of leadership positions within the bank and was ultimately asked to help establish its private equity arm, One Equity Partners, where he completed more than $3 billion of transactions. Mr. Kirkpatrick currently serves on the Board of Directors of Alacura, Supplemental Healthcare, Chiro One and Caremetx. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of PLUS Diagnostics and Precision Dynamics Corporation and as a board member of United Shore Financial Services, CareCentrix, AbilityOne Corporation, Medex Corporation, and Converge. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for Northwestern University and a Trustee of Rush University Medical Center. Mr. Kirkpatrick received a B.A. in history from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Business.
Martin Nesbitt

From 1998 to 2012, Mr. Nesbitt served as President and CEO of TPS Parking Management, LLC (dba The Parking Spot), an owner and operator of off-airport parking facilities. Mr. Nesbitt conceptualized and co-founded The Parking Spot with Penny Pritzker and was responsible for running all strategic and operating aspects of the Company. Prior to launching The Parking Spot, Mr. Nesbitt was an officer of the Pritzker Realty Group, L.P. (“PRG”), the real estate group primarily responsible for Pritzker family business interests. Prior to joining PRG, Mr. Nesbitt was an Equity Vice President and Investment Manager at LaSalle Partners with a variety of responsibilities, including investment management for regional retail properties and management and leasing for office projects and parking. Mr. Nesbitt currently serves on the Board of Directors of ForwardLine Financial, Treliant, Vanta Education and is a Trustee of the University of Phoenix. He also serves on the Board of Directors of CenterPoint Energy, Norfolk Southern Corporation and American Airlines Group. Mr. Nesbitt is a Trustee of Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art and serves as Chairman of the Barack Obama Foundation. He is a former member of The University of Chicago Laboratory School Board, former Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Housing Authority and a former board member of the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee. Mr. Nesbitt has been active in Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and has served as Chairman of the DuSable District of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Nesbitt was the national treasurer of President Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns.

Francesca Cornelli is the dean of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She is also a professor of finance and holds the Donald P. Jacobs Chair of Finance. Previously, she was professor of finance and deputy dean at London Business School. She directed and advanced the highly regarded Private Equity Institute of London Business School, building a bridge between academia and practice by partnering with private equity leaders in London, alumni and top academics in the field.Cornelli is widely respected as an accomplished scholar and a leader in business education. Her research interests include corporate governance, private equity, privatization, bankruptcy, IPOs and innovation policy. She has published several papers in the major finance and economics journals, and she gives regular talks at major conferences and universities. She has been an editor of the Review of Financial Studies, one of the top three finance journals, and previously served on the board of editors of the Review of Economic Studies and as an associate editor at the Journal of Finance. She is a research fellow at the Center for Economic and Policy Research, and previously served as a director of the American Finance Association. Cornelli has vast international experience and has taught at some of the top schools in the world, including the Wharton School, the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, The London School of Economics, the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad and the New Economic School in Moscow. She has also served as an independent board member of several global corporations, including financial institutions. In January 2016 she helped create and became a board member of AFFECT, a committee of the American Finance Association designed to promote the advancement of women academics in the field of finance.

Sally Pofcher is an Operating Partner at L Catterton, the world’s leading consumer growth investor. She is an active Board member on a number of portfolio businesses, advisor to a broader set of portfolio CEOs, and active in deal assessment. Sally was Chief Executive Officer of PaperSource from 2007-2015, and Chairman of the Board from 2015-2017. Over eight years, Sally built a team that transformed the company into a design-driven brand, grew the company from 20 stores, to 120 stores by end of 2016, and delivered profitability in line with top-decile specialty retailers. Sally led the sale process of Paper Source from Brentwood Associates to Investcorp in 2013, resulting in over 5x investor returns. Prior to Paper Source, Sally was SVP of Strategy and Business Development at Gap Inc. and a partner at McKinsey & Company. During her years at McKinsey, Sally worked with a number of major branded companies and retailers on their growth strategies, format renewal, and operational processes. She also spent three years at Citibank in New York and Latin America working with consumer companies. Sally has a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgetown University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University/Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Sally has also served on the Boards of Claire’s and Pet Retail Brands (owned by Roark Capital). Sally lives in Wilmette and has three daughters (ages 19, 17, and 7). Karin O’Connor has been an active investor in early- and growth-stage companies for over twenty years. She currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor at Kellogg, where she leads the school’s growth-stage entrepreneurship initiative and teaches its “Growth Strategy Practicum” courses. She is also a Venture Partner at Serra Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm headquartered in Champaign, IL, and leads the firm’s activities in the Chicago market, including recent investments in Markit Medical, Hazel Technologies, BuiltIn, and Tank Utility. She is also active as an advisor to growth-stage companies including Aaron Equipment Company, Morey Corporation, and LumiSource LLC. From 2011 until 2014, Karin served as Managing Director of Hyde Park Angels, Chicago’s largest angel investor network. She invested in fifteen companies with the group and served as HPA’s representative on the boards of portfolio companies FeeFighters, which was acquired by Groupon, Inc. in 2012 and Moxie Jean, which was acquired by Schoola in 2015. Karin received her BA in Finance from the University of Illinois, where she graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her MBA from Kellogg, where she was an F.C. Prior to 2x Partners, Mike spent time as an investment banker in the Consumer, Food, and Retail group at Houlihan Lokey where he advised food and beverage brands in mergers and acquisitions and capital raising activities. In addition, Mike has previously served as an associate intern with Hicks Equity Partners focusing on valuation of new investment opportunities and spent five-plus years in middle market commercial lending for food and beverage businesses. Linda Darragh's professional and volunteer experience has focused on enhancing entrepreneurship in Chicago for three decades. Currently, Darragh is a clinical professor and oversees curricular and co-curricular activities for entrepreneurship and innovation at Kellogg. Previously, Darragh was the director of Entrepreneurship Programs at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and she also served as the Vice President of the Women's Business Development Center. Linda has been a long-time board member of the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center/1871 and recently received the 1871 Momentum Award for Entrepreneurial Champion 2018. She is also a co-founder and now serves on the investment committee of Impact Engine, a seed fund that supports for-profit businesses making the world a better place. Darragh received a Master's degree from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor's degree from Queen's University.

Saints Capital, a secondary firm with $1B+ of assets under management with 200+ global portfolio of companies across US, Europe and Asia. Prior to joining Saints in 2003, Ms. Griarte was at Centennial Ventures, a technology- focused early-stage venture capital firm. At Centennial, Ms. Griarte was involved with investments in broadband access, cable, networking, satellite, wireless and digital media. Prior to Centennial Ventures, Ms. Griarte was a consultant at Gemini Consulting in the Telecom, Media and Networks practice focused on major U.S., European and Israeli wireline and wireless telecommunications companies across Europe, US and Middle East. Ms. Griarte began her career as an electrical systems engineer at Lockheed Martin and chaired the Corporate Avionics Taskforce. Ms. Griarte received an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, an MEM from the Robert L. She started her career in the Fixed Income, Currency and Commodity (FICC) group where she lead multiple technology enhancing projects across global exchanges. Samara is actively involved in the Chicago tech community and passionate about helping underrepresented groups get into STEM education, venture capital and entrepreneurship. She co-founded the Latinx Founders Collective organization to bring together Latinx founders, investors, and community leaders to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Samara is an active member of Latinx VCs, a San-Francisco based group of experienced venture investors coming together to connect, engage, and foster the Latinx VC ecosystem. Jim Dugan is the Chief Executive Officer, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of OCA Ventures. Prior to co-founding OCA Ventures in 2001, Jim oversaw the OCA Ventures Pledge Fund which made direct venture capital investments for the O’Connor Partners Investment Office. Jim has current board responsibilities for EdMap, SumRidge Partners, Campus Explorer, Impossible Objects, BigStep, Falcon Insurance Group and Solovis. In addition, Jim serves on the boards of the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) as Trustee, Illinois Tech Association (ITA), the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center (CEC), 1871, and NU Wave. Jim has over 25 years of corporate finance, capital markets, and venture capital investment experience. Prior to forming OCA Ventures, Jim traded derivatives at the Chicago Board of Trade and worked in corporate finance with Continental Bank. While at Continental Bank, Jim participated in the structured financing of companies ranging in capital size from $10 million to several billion dollars and in the formation of a $150 million subsidiary to fund mezzanine debt and equity financings. Jim received a BA in Economics from the University of Rochester and earned his MBA (MM) from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Kevin is a General Partner at Chicago Ventures, a seed-stage venture capital fund where he is overseeing all aspects of CV including fund management, deal sourcing and investments, and working directly with portfolio companies. He joined the fund in June 2013. From 2011 to 2013, Kevin was the Founding CEO of 1871, one of the top ranked incubators in the world serving hundreds of startups building their early-stage businesses located at Chicago’s famed Merchandise Mart. Since Kevin helped launch 1871 in May 2012, the center has welcomed thousands of visitors to events and curated hundreds of workshops and office hours with mentors for entrepreneurs. In 2019, UBI ranked 1871 as the #1 Private Incubator in the world. During Kevin’s time as CEO, high-profile visitors included former British Prime Minister David Cameron, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, AOL Founder Steve Case, Sun Microsystems co-founder Scott McNealy, and YouTube co-founder Steve Chen - shining a spotlight on Chicago’s growing tech startup community nationally and globally. Matthew is the Managing Partner at Tusk Ventures and the head of regulatory affairs. Tusk Ventures is one part venture capital firm, and one part political strategy firm that deploys both capital and political expertise to help start-ups break through regulatory barriers and operate at full speed. Matthew serves as the day-to-day lead on client service, regulatory engagement, and strategic counsel across the firm’s portfolio. Additionally, Matthew is the architect of a number of the firm’s high-stakes corporate and civic-facing campaigns as well as activist defense situations. Matthew was the matchmaker for the Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) acquisition of Whole Foods, as well as the quarterback of the successful consumer product defense of Lumber Liquidators (NYSE: LL) in 2016. Previously, Matthew was the senior vice president of global communications and public affairs at Laureate Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: LAUR). Before joining Laureate, Matthew served as deputy chief of staff for U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. In this capacity, he was a senior advisor to the Secretary on policy and strategic planning and was the Department lead on a number of critical inter-agency initiatives, such as the H1N1 flu response. Before joining the Obama Administration, Matthew worked at Ariel Investments. As Ariel’s vice president of public affairs, he directed the firm’s civic, governmental, and political affairs. Prior to his work at Ariel, Matthew was an analyst for the Chicago-based investment banking firm Billow Butler & Company. Matthew earned his B.A. in Political Science from Northwestern University and his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He lives in Miami with his wife and two children.

Alpa Patel is a partner in the Investment Funds Regulatory Solutions Group of Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago. Prior to joining Kirkland, she served as Branch Chief of the Private Funds Branch of the Investment Adviser Regulation Office in the SEC’s Division of Investment Management in Washington, D.C. At Kirkland, Ms. Patel’s practice focuses on counseling U.S. and non-U.S. investment advisers regarding the complex regulatory framework in which they operate. As a former regulator, she is able to provide insightful and practical guidance to clients grappling with issues related to the structure, management, and operations of their advisory business.
